:: Home To Texas

© Hal Schade and Linda Card, March 2009

It’s time to go home to Texas
I’m going back, but not backwards
Though I’m leaving my boat life behind
My memories carry me forward
Just like the ocean surrounded me
When I sailed from island to island
The flatlands of west Texas
Stretch away to an endless horizon

I’m reflecting on my reflection
I’m excited about my new life
At sea or on land, I’m as free as the wind
Back home to Texas again

I’ve learned to live a simple life
I’ve learned what’s important to me
The world has changed, and so have I
I know now who I want to be
Things that I did, things that I didn’t
Both I might want to forget
But I’m not a man who asks, “What if…?”
My life has no room for regrets

I’m reflecting on my reflection
I’m excited about my new life
At sea or on land, I’m as free as the wind
Back home to Texas again

The true measure of the success
Of this journey through life that I’m taking
Is not what I’m taking away
But the footprint that I am leaving
Once again I’ll have some keys
Lord knows I can’t live without ‘em
But my friends hold the key to my heart
Without them my life would mean nothin’

I’m reflecting on my reflection
I’m excited about my new life
At sea or on land, I’m as free as the wind
Back home to Texas again

Sailing on Griffin

...we are planners and dreamers.  Travelers, explorers, provisioners.  Savers and innovators.  Foragers, readers, relaxers...loners.  The drummer we followed; a child unbound - our world only limited by imagination....

:: One Wave at a Time

To sail the seas
To feel the wind in my face
To see the stars at night
Hanging heavy in the sky

To watch the sunset each evening
The sunrise each morning
To watch the waves coming
See them pass under
Disappear behind
Hundreds, thousands, millions

Sleeping each night
To the rhythm of the waves
Waking to the night sounds
Of sails
Of water flowing by
The creaking of tight sheets
Through blocks

To live
Day after day
Secure in my world
That extends
From horizon to horizon
Knowing a quiet peace
Knowing
The life of a sailor
