French Onion Soup Printable Version of this Recipe

by Laurie, a very good friend of mine & a GREAT cook.

  • 6 slices of bacon
  • 3 large onions sliced into thin strips
  • 1 teaspoon Seasoned salt
  • 3 cartons of chicken broth
  • ¾ cup of red wine
  • 1 tablespoon of red wine vinegar
  • French bread
  • Butter
  • Garlic Salt
  • Mozzarella and parmesan cheese

In a large pan, fry the bacon and then remove from the grease and set aside.  In the bacon grease add salt and onions and sauté until caramelized.  It takes 30-45 minutes.  Add in wine and vinegar.  Saute for another 15 minutes.  Add the broth and simmer for two hours.

Cut the bread into slices, butter and dust with garlic salt.  Toast in the oven until slightly browned.

To serve, ladle hot soup into a shallow baking dish.  Top with garlic toast and cover the whole thing with cheese.  Put under the broiler until cheese is browned.
