Cherrystone Clams

This recipe was handed down by my Great, Great, Great, Great, Grand Uncle, who was the Head Bartender on the Mayflower.Joe Alves from Sailing Vessel Trinkka

 

 

 

 Ingredients:

  • Cherrystone clams*, as many as you want to cook.
  • 1 inch pieces of bacon
  • Ketchup
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Hot sauce

Directions:

Steam open the clams and discard the top shell while retaining the juice. Place clams on a cookie sheet and add a 1 inch piece of bacon to each one. Now add the ketchup, Worcestershire Sauce, and hot sauce on the bacon, and bake in an oven for about 15 minutes at 350 degrees. Warning! These little morsels are habit forming!

Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in a 350 degree oven till golden brown. 

*Cherrystone clams are an East Coast medium-size clam approximately shell diameter of about 21⁄2 inches.  The are of the hard-shell variety.  Cherrystones are good both raw and cooked, steaming and baking being the most popular cooking methods.
