Classic Southern BiscuitsPrintable Version of this Recipe

recipe by Tami s/v Heart of Gold

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbs baking powder
  • 1 tbs sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 tbs butter or shortening
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk or milk

Preheat oven to 425˚F.  In bowl, stir dry ingredients together.  Using your fingers, rub butter into flour mixture.  Stir in milk until just combined.  Turn dough out onto a well-floured surface.  Pat dough flat to 1/2" thickness.  Cut 12 biscuits using a 1 1/2" round biscuit cutter (or the top of a glass like I use).

Bake on a greased baking sheet 15 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown.
