GPrintable Version of this Recipeuacamole for Florida Avocados

Contributed by:  Tami's Aunt Mary & Uncle Ronn

Aunt Mary & Uncle RonnI love the small Haas avocados that are available all of the US and Central America.  I'm not so fond of the huge Florida avocados.  I find them a little watery tasting and they don't have that wonderful buttery taste of the other avocados.  That being said, my Uncle Ronn made this guacamole for us on our last visit using Florida avocados & it was delicious.

Ingredients:

  • 1 large peeled ripe avocado (if you use the smaller avocados, use 2 or 3)
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 2 tsp. finely minced onion
  • 1/4+ tsp. chili powder
  • Several generous squirts of hot sauce
  • Mayonnaise

Rub a wooden bowl with cut garlic clove. Mash clove, chop & leave in bowl. Place avocado in bowl & mash with a silver fork. Add salt, chili powder, lemon juice & onion. Mix well & taste for seasoning. The size of the avocado will alter the amount of seasonings needed. Put guacamole in a serving bowl (or use the wooden bowl as serving bowl) and spread a thin layer of mayonnaise across the top of the guacamole, extending mayo to the side of the bowl. (This keeps the Guacamole from turning brown.) Stir well before serving with tortilla chips.
