Anchorages, marinas along the ICW. Here
is a list of the marinas or anchorages that we stayed at along the way:
- St. Christopher's Haven, Port O'Connor, approx ICW Mile 474: Did a
quick overnight here. It is conveniently located right on the ICW.
Unfortunately that means it's a very bumpy place to stay as there are many
fishing boats racing to get out and catch those fish. We docked
along the bulkhead and they have tires out so be careful not to scrape or
you'll never get that stuff off your boat! Our cost for an overnight
w/o electricity was $31 in 2004.
- San Bernard River, ICW Mile 405: Anchored and it was lovely.
No traffic or other boats. However, there were mosquitoes.
- Port-a-fino, Houston, Texas.
- Stingaree Marina just west of Mile 335. Great place for a quick
stop. The restaurant and Stingaritas are suppose to be great.
The restaurant was closed so we didn't get to sample them.
- Taylor Bayou, ICW Marker 280.4. Lots of mosquitoes with a very
muddy, nasty, oily bottom. But that's probably what you'll get
anywhere around here.
- Sabine Yacht Basin, enter via Adams Bayou, approx ICW Mile 278:
marina no longer has fuel. Very narrow entry in (no turning around
room. We road out bad weather here. Nice shower facilities,
restaurant & bar.
- Bayou Lacassine, ICW Mile 205. It was really windy when we stayed
here, but on a calm night would probably be a very nice anchorage.
- Bayou Petit Anse, Mile 146.5. Don't anchor here, barges come thru.
- Avery Channel, Mile 146.5. Very nice and quiet anchorage.
- Morgan City, LA, appox Mile 94. Very loud & rolly. Lots of
train & car traffic on bridges nearby. Wake from tows. Dockage
is against concrete pilings. $20 per night in 2004.
- Houma, LA, Mile 60. A delightful town with very friendly people.
Marina is fairly new (really just a long concrete bulkhead.
- Laffite Harbor Marina. We've stayed at better. Our slip was
right beside the boat ramp so we had traffic all night. You can buy a
stale loaf of bread at the store if you need one.
- New Orleans Municipal Marina. A fantastic marina. Great
facilities semi-close to the bus stop. $9.00 a day. Can't beat
it!

Port Aransas, Texas: Our
Home. We love Port Aransas and will retire there when we get thru
wandering the world. If you ever get the chance to visit, go...it's the
best port in all of Texas. You can anchor in the Lydia Ann Channel or go
to the
City Marina or
Island
Moorings (Island Moorings channel was closed for years, but has now been
reopened). Highlights for visitors of Port A are: great sailing,
fishing, beautiful beaches, bird watching, kayaking,
electric cars,
great musical performances & lots more.
The
Lydia Ann Lighthouse is a privately owned lighthouse. Lighthouse
keepers Rick and Regina are great people so look them up if you want to know
what's going on in town or anything about the music scene.
Some of the best Texas music is recorded in Port Aransas at
Third Coast Studio.
They often have performances in the studio that you can go see. We've seen
some great performances there. Our favorite performer,
Larry Joe Taylor is
often playing in town so be sure to look him up.
Of course, you must stop and have a beer at the
Back Porch Bar and
at Shorty's.
